How to do handprint painting?
Simply spread a nice even coat of washable paint on your child's hand. Applying with a paintbrush tends to work the best. Then gently press onto a sheet of card stock. Non-toxic washable ink pads are a great alternative to paint when capturing your little one's handprint and not quite as messy.

Make cleanup a breeze at the end by having an old towel, water and wet wipes nearby. Or complete prints just before bathtime.
If you are finding paint or ink a bit tricky and messy, another option is to trace around the baby's hand onto some colored paper or cardstock, then cut it out. This can then be stuck onto a print.

How do you get the perfect handprint?
Have A Helper - It's a great idea to have someone there to help. They can hold the baby or pass the print, wet wipes, etc when needed.
Wait Until Baby Is Asleep - Wait until they are in a nice deep sleep or after they have been fed and are calm and relaxed
Make A Few Copies - Have several copies printed and ready to go. We all get better with practice so try a few times. Then once dry you can pick the best one.
Use A Clipboard - Having the print on a clipboard keeps the print flat and offers a hard surface to work on. You could also tape the print to a table or book.
Massage Baby's Hand - Baby handprints can be difficult to get as they will often clench the fist. A few minutes spent massaging the palm and relaxing the hand can really help. A gentle squeeze of the knuckles can help draw out the fingers enough for you to get the hand onto the page.
Do A Test Run - Practice getting baby’s hand flat a few times first. You can’t do this enough!
Have Patience - If things aren’t working out or if baby (or you) are starting to get stressed, stop and try another time. Baby prints can be tricky. Also understand that the final prints don’t have to be 100% perfect and getting any type of print of baby’s hand will be a treasure to hold onto forever.

What is the best paper for handprint art?
We recommend white cardstock that is 80lbs/216 gsm or greater to ensure that the paper is thick enough to add painted handprints. It's less likely to rip, wrinkle, or tear under the paint (or if your baby is wiggling).
